Welcome to this showcase of haiku by some of the best writers in New Zealand. This page is primarily intended for overseas visitors, so they may get a flavour of what's going on in haiku here, but it may also be used as a resource by other Kiwi writers.

To browse work by our leading haiku writers, please click on the index of poets (listed alphabetically). If there's a term you don't understand in the poem, turn to our glossary, which also contains external links to specialised pages.

Leading writers are, by invitation, contributing to an occasional series, Favourite Haiku. Here you will read poems that have moved, and continue to move, other poets and short commentaries on the poems chosen. We hope that this will be educationa, as well as enjoyable.

If you would like to know more about haiku journals and groups in New Zealand, please visit Publications and Groups.

If you would like to read well-known "mainstream" New Zealand poets, please visit the New Zealand Electronic Poetry Centre.
